Protecting Little Bodies from the Poisons of Conventionally-Grown Foods

Protecting Little Bodies from the Poisons of Conventionally-Grown Foods
You and your children may be ingesting up to 70 types of pesticide residues every single day, according to a report released by the Pesticide Action Network North America (PANNA). These residues are classed in a group of toxic chemicals known as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and could potentially harm the health of you and your family. Buying organic food may help.
Exposure to persistent organic pollutants has been linked to several serious human health conditions, including certain cancers, suppression of the immune system, disruption of nervous and hormonal systems, and reproductive system damage. The highest exposures in our country are experienced by those living in the Southeast, with the lowest exposures in the Midwest of the country.
Although the use of chemicals that lead to these residues have been widely banned in many countries, including America, they have not been properly controlled in other countries, many of which provide the US with fresh produce. We are exposed to these chemicals when we eat food produced in other countries and through waterways and precipitation as POPs are carried around the globe through the natural water cycle.
But lest you think Americans are free of chemicals pesticides that can harm our health, think again. American crops are exposed to over 500 kinds of pesticides equal to greater than 50,000 tons annually. And the big shocker is that little more than one percent of these chemicals actually reach their intended targets! The rest gets washed away into the environment where they permeate our soil and water.
Exposure to pesticides and POPs is of particular concern for parents with young children. Children have higher metabolisms and lower body weights than adults, making them more susceptible to the effects of pesticide exposure. In fact, there are over 300,000 cases of pesticide poisoning in the US every year. Some studies suggest that pesticides can contribute to the incidence of Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s diseases, too.
Beware! The fruits, veggies, and other foods with the highest levels of pesticides are:
Summer squash Cantaloupe Radishes Spinach Winter squash Cucumbers Butter Meatloaf Peanuts
Although buying organic food won’t be a sure-fire way of avoiding pesticides and POPs (virtually all foods are contaminated with POPs according to PANNA), it can go a long way to reducing your exposure. More importantly, it will signal to the government and the agriculture industry that you don’t support the use of conventional farming methods. Consumer choices speak volumes, so make yourself heard!

Healthy Brownie Recipe – Fast Dessert Recipes – Dianne Linderman

Healthy Brownie Recipe – Fast Dessert Recipes – Dianne Linderman
Dianne Linderman spent a lot of time creating this delicious brownie recipe! Why? Because she didn’t like brownies that tasted like they were “store-bought,” or “boxed.” She wanted something entirely different – brownies that were crunchy and delicious on the outside and gooey on the inside. Doesn’t that sound delicious?
This recipe is very simple to make, and takes less than 10 minutes. Dianne doesn’t use white flour or white sugar, which makes these brownies a whole lot healthier!
Here is what you’ll need:
- 1 cup of softened butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla (not imitation vanilla)
- 1 cup of whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 2.5 cups organic brown sugar (maple sugar or maple syrup work great too)
- 6 1-oz squares of unsweetened chocolate
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- organic olive oil spray (like PAM) to coat the bottom of your baking pan
To make the brownies:
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees (this lower setting will make brownies turn out gooey on the inside)
2. Except butter and unsweetened chocolate, place all the ingredients into a stand mixer and mix well
3. Take the chocolate, add it to butter and melt it; then add into the mix
4. Mix everything until smooth, and then stir by hand to make sure that you get everything from the bottom
5. Coat the bottom of your baking pan with organic olive oil spray; pour the mixture into the pan
6. Bake for 35-45 minutes
You want your brownies to be a little soft on the inside when you pull them out of the oven. When you insert a toothpick into the middle, you want it to come out with a little bit of batter on it; this is a perfect time to get your brownies out of the oven. Brownies actually keep cooking for at least 5-10 more minutes when they come out, so leaving them soft on the inside makes them taste gooey and oh so scrumptious!
Top with whipped cream and enjoy!
Organize Your Recipe Collection For Free

Organize Your Recipe Collection For Free
Collecting recipes from all over the world wide web can be fun and very rewarding in terms of the food you eat. It can also be a nightmare to organize. It doesn’t have to be. A little work early on will pay rich rewards as your recipe collection grows.
There’s no need to buy expensive software, everything you need is on your computer right now. There’s no need to print anything out, either, even though most good cooking websites provide you with that facility. You just need to follow the easy, step by step, instructions below.
I’m going to assume that you are a Windows user and that you have Internet Explorer as your web browser (the software that lets you access the internet). If you have a different system don’t worry, the only real difference is likely to be that your ‘Favorites’ file is called ‘bookmarks’. I’m also going to assume that you know next to nothing about using that file. You may find it easier to print these instructions out.
Here’s what you need to do:
1.Open your browser by double clicking on the ‘e’ shaped icon on your desktop (the area of screen you see when nothing else is happening).
2.In the top gray bar you will see the following: File Edit View Favorites Tools Help. Click on Favorites.
3.In the menu that appears click on Organize Favorites and in the little box that pops up you will see four buttons on the left. Click on Create Folder.
4.In the little window on the right you will see a new folder appear with the words ‘New Folder’ highlighted in blue. Without doing anything else, type the word Recipes and hit the ‘enter’ key. That’s step one completed.
5.Now click on Create Folder again and name this folder Chicken. You now have two new folders, one below the other, but we want the Chicken folder inside the Recipes folder and that’s easy to do.
6.Highlight the Chicken folder by clicking on it once. Click on the button marked Move to Folder.
7.In the window that appears scroll down to the Recipes folder, click on it once and then click ‘OK’. As you return to the original window you will see that the Chicken folder has disappeared.
8.Click on the Recipes folder and you will see it reappear, but this time it’s inside the Recipes folder.
9.Adding more sub-folders is a snap. All you have to do is highlight the Chicken folder by clicking on it once and then click Create Folder. You will see your new folder appear under the Chicken folder and inside the Recipes folder. Call this one Lamb or Salmon or anything else you like. You can go on adding folders like this until you have all you need. You can also add more at a later date just by following the same process.
Before we finish, let’s just check that you have everything working as it should. Go to this page http://www.all-about-cooking.com/chicken (if a box drops down with my picture on it click the little ‘x’ in the top right corner to get rid of it) and click on Favorites followed by Add to Favorites.
Scroll down in the window that appears and click on the little [+] next to Recipes, then Chicken and finally the OK button in the top right corner. That’s it, you’re done. You now have a complete chicken recipe collection neatly stored in your favorites file that you can access any time you like. And of course you can add as many different web pages or individual recipes as you wish by following the same simple procedure. Just get into the habit of clicking the Favorites button whenever you find a recipe you like and you need never be surrounded by bits of paper again.

Recipe Software Tips

Recipe Software Tips
It has happened to everyone it seems. You get home from work and can not figure out what in the world is for dinner. Then when you scramble around and figure out something only to find out that you are out of one of the recipes ingredients. So that means either figure something else out to eat or make a run to the grocery store to pick up the needed items. It is a pain to have this happen to you, and worst yet to have it happen several times a week. There is a solution to the problem, and you can free up so much time by using it.
I’m talking about using recipe software. Recipe organizing software is one of the greatest ways to organize your dinners and recipes. With built in meal planning software, you can plan all your meals out in advance. This also helps when it comes to buying groceries. By knowing what you are going to cook, you can shop for all the items at once. Which means those mid week trips to the grocery store where you stand in line for long periods of time will be much less. This is really good feature if you only need a small item like a few onions or something.
Another great feature of recipe organizer software is the fact that it organizes your recipes. Hence that’s what the software was created for. Good recipe software will let you search through recipes and order them by many different factors. When you’re looking through thousands of recipes at once, you will need that organization to quickly find the recipe you want. What is good is a recipe organizer if it does not help you find the right recipe fast? This is where sorting and categories can help out a great deal.
When shopping for a good recipe organizer software, it is best to find one with all the features that were mentioned in this article. Of course the try before you buy software gives you the best opportunity to figure out if the recipe software is right for you. Using this method you can figure out if the software is right for you and save you time while cooking your recipes.
Blog for Success and Money

Blog for Success and Money
Blogging seems to be the prime topic of everyone’s discussion these days. Blogs appear to grow more popular by the month, as they continue to expand across the internet. A major reason for this increase is due to the prosperous benefits that come along with blogging. When done correctly, implementing this popular method of online communication into your website could bring forth much success. Many of the internet’s most prominent businesses realize the importance of a blog; some say it is a must. This powerful tool is much more dynamic than the traditional website. What has made it so attractive is the convenience and freedom of user interaction. It is practically an open forum where individuals get to express their opinions and receive a wide range of feedback If you are familiar with the concept, then blogging may seem simple. While starting a blog is no difficult task by any means, turning yours into a money-making machine requires a dedicated effort.
Monetizing your blogIn order of a blog to generate income, you must develop a strong strategy for monetizing it. There are several different venues which you can employ to monetize your blog: · AdSense· Advertising space for banner ads · Donations · Affiliate programs · Paid third-party product reviews / pushes · Selling your own services or products Deciding on what monetizing strategy you employ depends upon the goals for your blog and its target audience. Each target audience will respond different to your different monetizing strategies; for example, a humanitarian blog audience may be more receptive to donations, while a cooking blog audience would click through your banner ads for an organic recipe cookbook. You should develop an initial strategy, keeping your targeted audience’s psychology in mind. The design and layout of your blog should reflect your monetizing strategy; for example, if you will be employing AdSense, then you may want to use a column layout with clean colors and lines. You want to ensure that your monetizing efforts are optimized in the layout of your website. As you progress with your blog, do not be afraid to test the water and adjust your monetizing strategies based upon feedback and performance results.
Generating traffic You may have the best blog and monetizing strategy in the world, but without traffic, your bank account will not grow whatsoever. To begin making money with a blog, one must first generate traffic. Establishing a stable list of loyal readers has been easier for some than others, but it is the key to running a successful blog. When you are first beginning your blog endeavors, it may seem daunting to generate traffic when there is not a single visitor to your website. However, with a bit of strategy, you can quickly build traffic and a returning base of readers.
Write what you know. You should consider writing your blog on a topic of your specialty or passion. The more you know about the subject matter of your blog, the better; you will be able to establish yourself as an authority and readers will come to learn from you. Content and traffic have a very strong symbiotic relationship. Remember what you learned about in advertising class in college? Viral marketing is the most effective form of advertising – period. If people like your blogs, they will refer it to their friends, and in the internet, friends can add up to millions of people.
Regularly updated content. Yes, you have heard it before, and you will hear it again – content is king! Readers will flock to your blog if you provide them with insightful, unique, and relevant content that is updated regularly. In addition, when you consistently publish quality content that is rich in keywords, the search engines will frequent your site to update their indexing, which then leads to more traffic coming into your blog. The better, more frequent posts you publish, the more other sites will link to you, thus again bringing in more traffic and increasing your search engine rankings.
Linking with related blogs. Linking is another way to generate traffic and add to your blog’s success. You want your site to be viewed by as many readers as possible. Exchanging links with another blogger is a great way to make that happen. Surf the web for similar blogs that relate to your specialty and host the same audience you are seeking. Linking relative sites on your page also displays credibility to readers. They will view you as a main source, referring other interested parties to your blog for that relative info. Friendly links also improve search engine ranking and increase the chances of someone stumbling across your blog. All novice bloggers looking to make money should know this: success is hard work. Devotion and great patience is required if you want a blog to work for you. The most comforting fact is that many people are taking advantage of this tool and creating mass revenue. While nothing is promised, applying sound search engine optimization strategies to your blog speaks volumes in the way of success. Combining this with good old fashion communication can help return profitable results in the long journey with your blog.

Make ‘Em an Offer They Can?t Refuse (Part 1)
January 29, 2011

Make ‘Em an Offer They Can?t Refuse (Part 1)
Few things are more discouraging to a passionate entrepreneur than creating products and programs that don’t sell well.
It’s hard not to take it personally, which can bring up feelings of doubt, hurt, disappointment and even embarrassment. But for the savvy, “I’m gonna make it happen” business owner, there’s no such thing as failure – there’s only feedback.
When the feedback you get is an audience that’s not buying, it’s time to take a look at the offer you’re making.
There are two levels to creating a compelling offer. I want to share some of the tips from my Passion for Profit coaching program on what you can do in the development stage to ensure that you’re creating an offer your audience won’t be able to resist. (Then, next time in Part 2 we’ll look at how to present the offer in the most desirable light.)
Here are four clear-cut and simple tips you can use to be certain you’re putting your time and energy into offers that will get snapped up!
Irresistible Offer Tip #1 – Make Sure It’s a Really Desirable Topic
It’s tempting to create a product or program focused on something you know your audience needs. My advice – don’t do it. People are notorious for not buying what they need, but instead spending their money on what they want. I call this the broccoli vs. ice cream syndrome.
When in doubt about whether the topic you’re considering is ice cream or broccoli, ask your audience. Pick up the phone, send out an email, put together a survey. You’ll be surprised at how happy they are to steer you in the right direction.
Irresistible Offer Tip #2 – Give It a Mouth-Watering Title
Titles (like headlines and subject lines) serve an absolutely crucial role in your sales and marketing – they capture your audience’s attention. The goal, of course, is for your title to create a powerful incentive for your potential client to want to buy. So it has to reach out and grab them and motivate them into action.
So spend some time on crafting a really delicious title for your product, program, event, workshop, ebook or home study course. Some tips for a great title: it’s specific, it is conversational rather than salesy, it’s curiosity-provoking, it highlights benefits and results rather than features, it’s not overly clever or cute.
I usually recommend to my clients they spend at least as much time on the title as they do on the content itself. Yes, it’s that important!
Irresistible Offer Tip #3 – Add On a Tempting and Relevant Bonus
For me, the key word here is “relevant.” Adding a bonus (or two or three) can certainly increase the appeal of your package. But too often, I see folks throwing on things that are totally unrelated to the main offer. The point of a bonus is to give that extra nudge that tips people off the fence. If I’m considering your business building program, I’m not likely to be swayed by a bonus e-book on organic recipes or an audio about feng shui. (Not that those aren’t interesting and valuable subjects in the right context.)
The best bonus directly supports the results offered by the main package component. Ask yourself: Would this [whatever the bonus is] clearly add to the value of what I’m getting? If the answer is no, head back to the drawing board.
Irresistible Offer Tip #4 – Determine the Value Before You Set the Price
Price is often the first thing business owners want to figure out when they’re creating a new product, program or event. But as I counsel my clients, it’s usually the last phase of your program-development process.
Here’s why – it’s hard to determine a fair price until you’re clear on what is being offered, both in terms of “deliverables” and results. Secondly, other factors can come into play as you determine the “magic number.” There are times when it makes strategic sense to price a program on the low end. For example, if it’s a new –and untried- offering (it then becomes paid learning), or so you can draw more people into it and have a bigger pool for your upsell offer.
Tie Your Offers Up with a Red Ribbon
Your special brand of transformation is important in helping your clients solve their current challenges. The content of what you offer is always showcased by the “wrapping” you give it. When you think strategically and creatively about your topic, title, bonuses and pricing, you can create a “pretty package” that’s easy for them to say ‘yes’ to.
